Participants taking part in the Mongolia Sunrise to Sunset have the option to complete a marathon (42 km) distance or the 100 km course (which does require some running!).
Camp Toilogt is an eco-tourism community set in a stunning spot on the shores of the lake which offers participants low-impact accommodation and the warmth of local hospitality, as well as simple hot showers and other basic conveniences. Camp Toilogt is also the site of the start and finish of MS2S. Prior to the race, participants have the opportunity to acclimatize to the altitude (1650 meters) and become acquainted with the course. For those interested, horseback riding, fishing, hiking and visiting local families (including Tsaatan reindeer herders) will also be possible. MS2S's 2009 Race will be on 22nd of July. To get a sense of what happened during the MS2S's 2008 Race Day, read the 2008 Race Report. Following a day of recovery feasting and partying with the locals on 23 July, participants will travel back to UB on 24 July from where they will return home; or they can stay in the lake region for a week of relaxation or horse-trekking.
Photos by Nigel Farrow Mongolia Sunrise to Sunset is dedicated to the memory of Dr. Mike Frank, our beloved race doctor for the first two years, in the hope of bringing Dr. Mike's infectious spirit into the event and into our own lives. We were very lucky to have known him (read Article 1 and Article 2 on Dr. Mike Frank). Dr. Mike passed away on 23 October 2000 in a plane crash in Uganda. 08.12.2008 |
